Sawbridgeworth 2000
The Churches and Community Millennium Working Group.

The month of May saw some major Millennium events.....

(The commemorative plate is still available from the schools at 4.50p)

THE FESTIVAL:
On two consecutive evenings, performers from many local groups came together to stage The Sawbridgeworth 2000 May Festival. It was linked to 'BBC Music Live'.

The following performers took part: The Leventhorpe School Music Department's String Quartet, Tracey Walker and her teenage jazz group with "Hot Hot Jazz", Stella Hughes' accordion band, The Gateway Club with their handbells, Neck of the Wood folk band, Fiddler's Brook Morris, Youth CREATE, Los Palomas Flamenco Group, Spotlight Theatre School, The Most Holy Redeemer Church Choir singing "Pilgrim", Thorns and Roses - Sharon Leggate's dance group, Sawbridgeworth Music Makers.

The finale on each night included all the performers and on the second night led to the grand climax of everyone singing the Youth Create song for the millennium "BRAND NEW START".  (The song features on the Rotary CD "Sounds of Sawbridgeworth").

THE SCHOOLS PROCESSION:

There was a schools Procession in which a thousand schoolchildren paraded through the town in fancy dress. Here are a few photos:

The event was marked with the issue of a special commemorative plate (some are still available through the schools).

THE EXHIBITION:

Afterwards there was an exhibition of Sawbridgeworth - Past Present and Future, featuring the work of the schools.
